1937 CE

The Japanese invent the Purple Machine which uses telephone stepping relays instead of rotors.
1939 CE

The Allies get their first look at a German Enigma machine after Polish intelligence steals it.
1940 CE

The first Bombe arrives in Bletchley Park. It is based on Alan Turing's design. British cryptanalysts use it to break German Enigma machine signals.
1940 CE

Captain Midnight radio show features the "Code-O-Graph".
1942 CE

The United States begins using Navajos code talkers.
1944 CE

The U.S. Army begins using Sigaba a.k.a. the ECM Mark II to encrypt their communications.
